Creative Playthings set of nesting blocks, made in Finland, 1960s

From the Creative Playthings 1965 catalog: “Each of these new Creative Playthings blocks fits inside the next size to make a compact nest 5½” x 5½” x 5½”. Each fits on top of another to make a 17½” high tower. Each has its own peek holes for see-through fun. These rugged blocks are built to last. Attractively finished in clear lacquer and orange; ⅜” hardwood with interlocking corners.”

Condition: Very good

Founded in New York in 1945 by Frank and Theresa Caplan, Creative Playthings produced educational toys with modern design sensibilities that encouraged imagination over formulaic play. The company’s output included anything from Isamu Noguchi playground equipment to instruments designed in collaboration with ethnomusicologists and then-controversial anatomically correct dolls.
