Series of carved cherry wood animal figures sold via monthly mail-order under the “Royal Pet” name. The animals are compact and designed in a style inspired by Scandinavian modern wooden toys, but rendered by Japanese kokeshi craftsmen.
Condition: very good, some with boxes in fair condition (see pictures)
Senshukai (千趣会) was a Japanese mail-order company that entered the toy market during the 1960s. Its “Royal Pet” series featured animals carved by artisans trained in traditional doll making (kokeshi), blending folk methods with modernist form.
